My top ten are pretty predictable, although I am a bit surprised to realize that I like Wesley that much. The ones near the bottom are pretty predictable, too - mostly minor characters that I don't remember well and/or remember just enough to hold grudges against. Or else they are Lorne. Sorry, Lorne.

The episode list was harder because I don't remember all these episodes very well.

The top ten are dominated by the experimental episodes, soulless Angel, The Gift, and some special favorites of mine: Dead Things, Who Are You, Fool For Love, New Moon Rising. Interestingly, each of those episodes is associated with one of my top 4 characters: I fell in love with Buffy in Dead Things, Who Are You is a Faith episode (and I was thisclose to ranking it below Fool For Love, which would have matched my rankings of favorite characters), Fool For Love is Spike, New Moon Rising is Willow.

My bottom ten include the predictable S1 episodes, some predictable S2 episodes, and my special distastes: Living Conditions and The Prom (I am a little surprised the Him outranks The Prom, though).

Great choices! The experimental episodes in BtVS aged so well, better than the AtS ones IMO, still "relevant" in terms of experimental narrative.

I do love the guilty pleasure, silly and comforting episodes too, though. Like "Living Conditions" is one of my absolute faves, despite being one of the silliest. Do youu believe in life after looooveeee?

It's really impressive just how consistently good the Buffy experimental episodes are. On another show I could easily see them as being interesting but weird. On BtVS, they are amazing. That Joss Whedon could write multiple episodes that were both adventurous and yet, as you say, relevant and emotionally resonant - that's impressive.

And Once More With Feeling really should be higher. Below Hush and The Gift? What was I thinking?

Living Conditions grossed me out in the name of humor. Some things I do not forgive.

LOL, were the toenails or the gum under the book? XD I just love that silly episode so much!

I totally agree. And, you know, in other series when they do "the musical episode" or the "parallel universe" episode, they take a whole detached episode to do an experimentation that doesn't have any impact on the narrative as whole. OMWF or Hush are experimental and unique as hell but also crucial points of their respective seasons. They change the storyarc and the characters development.

They can say whatever they want about Joss, but does he know how to write!

Buffy drinking the milk was the WORST, but other parts of the episode were bad, too.

Which is actually what The Wish does - maybe why I don't like it as much.

But yeah - most of the experimental DON'T do that. Hush and OMWF use unusual forms of communication to advance and change relationships in a way that wouldn't necessarily happen if everything were normal.

The bit where Buffy drinks the milk just to piss off Kathy is literally GPOY. I LOVE HEEEEER!

Totally. I feel like The Wish is very overrated compared to these kind of episodes.
