I have seen some arguments additionally which specifically single out a female character as being male-coded, as a way of criticizing that character (and indicating that she does not deserve any consideration as a woman). This is a bit similar to the Yoko Ono thing. What is odd is that it is sometimes applied to characters who are not even particularly masculine, but who have other negative traits -- it seems to be a sort of excuse for being able to bash a female character mercilessly while still laying claim to feminist values and to a worldview where villainy is a male-only trait.
