Date: 2019-09-04 12:50 pm (UTC)Fantasy author Patricia McKillip. Her books came along at just the right time, and had just the right themes.
6. What is your favourite stand-alone book?
I'm very fond of 1984.

Date: 2019-09-05 12:53 pm (UTC)The Tell-Tale Heart. When I go over that story in my mind, it seems like it should not be that scarry. But it TERRIFIED me.
13. What is the biggest book series you have read? How many books are in it?
I don't think I've ever completed a book series that had a large number of books. I read a lot of Boxcar Children growing up, but that is the series that never ends. I read most of Brian Jacques' Redwall books, but I stopped eventually.
14. What book gives you happy memories?
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Never actually read that one, just listened to the book tape. But I have happy associations.
15. What book made you cry?
A LOT. Since I recently re-read Wild Magic by Tamora Piece, I'll go with Emperor Mage, the third book in that series. I read it on a trip, but got home in time for ending. When I got to the sad part, I locked myself in the bathroom (the only room in our house with a lock at that time) and bawled.

Date: 2019-09-04 01:00 pm (UTC)A Song of Ice and Fire. I was interested in it because I heard it had more shades of gray than most fantasy books, but honestly in the parts I read I did not see that. The good guys were very good and the bad guys were very icky and evil. What made it different from most fantasy books was that the bad guys got to win a lot. I guess that's not my thing.
12. What book do you passionately hate?
I don't know if "Hate" is the right word, but I decided to stop reading The Count of Monte Cristo when one character repeated for another character, word for a word, a conversation of the "Hi, how are you?" "I'm good, how are you?" variety.
36. What is a book you love that has a terrible trope? (Love triangle, etc)
I discussed this here, but usually I'm not a big fan of stories where the main character ends up marrying his male best friend's sister. But it worked well with Morgon/Raederle

Date: 2019-09-04 01:06 pm (UTC)Currently I don't have two copies of any book in my apartment, but when I was younger I'm sure I had more tha one copy of some of the Redwall books.
20. Have you ever been glad to not finish a series? Which?
Like given up on a series? I gave up on the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey after one of the books had way too much rape.
34. What is the newest book you have bought?
A memoir by a survivor of the Columbine Massacre
44. What is a book that you love, but has a terrible cover?
I can't think of an example.
