Unbelievable *Trigger Warning: Rape*
Jan. 2nd, 2020 08:30 amI watched the Netflix show Unbelievable awhile back. I've been hesitant to post about due to the combination of the subject matter and the fact that it is based on a true story. This is ultimately a fannish journal. I can be fannish about real people, and I can be fannish about fictional stories of rape, but rape of real people is a difficult one.
But I do have a couple things to say:
I really hope people are watching this show. A lot of people don't know that the police can do this, harass someone into saying whatever they want the person to say. And, as in this case, they can do it without even realizing they are doing it. It frightens me to think that there are victims there are out there who were harassed into a lie, and will never have their stories validated because the rapist didn't take pictures.
Overall, it was a very well-done show. I read the article the show was based on some time ago. I appreciate that the show, as with the original article, tells a story of bad police work, and a story of good police work.
