I'm reading a book entitled Hitler's Hangman: the Life of Heydrich, by Robert Gerwath. The book is a biography of Reinhard Heydrich, one of the high-up Nazis in Hitler's Germany.

This book was published in 2011. 2011, people

From page 42, here is the author's description of the goals of the Nazis, bold mine: The institutions of state, society and culture would be remodelled to create a racially homogeneous nation imbued with one purpose: to make Germany great again.

It's eerie and there is no excuse for anything but at least the sentiment I find can be more easily understood out of historical context – I mean not the racially homogeneous idiocy but the desire to build Germany up again after WWI but the impossible reparations that could never be repaid, that took a toll on a nation ready to break under poverty and constant inflation. I don't see that the United States is suffering from such plight though I will not deny that there are a lot of things wrong socially and especially where income is concerned, it seems that the social gap is getting wider and wider.

While it as nowhere as bad as post-World War I Germany, my understanding is that there were many working class people in very poor plight who saw Trump as the candidate who would help them (though I really don't think Trump actually cares about working class people).

Then again, I don't think Trump is as bad as Hitler. Definitely different situations in many ways.
