When discussing TV shows, we often discuss "the writers" as if they area monolith, but remember this is a number of people who may hold diverse opinions.

That's very true.

Except in the case of Game of Thrones, where the writers were the showrunners because they didn't want anyone else to write for the show despite people begging them to hire more writers. But that's a special case entirely, and not in a good way.
