I watched the M. Night Shyamalan movie Unbreakable this weekend for the third time in my life. The first time I watched it I was so young that I had not yet gone through my own superhero comics phase. I hadn't even seen The Sixth Sense.

Some brief thoughts this time around (beware of spoilers):

There really are very few characters in this movie. It doesn't take the IMDb cast list long to get down to the nameless characters.

Speaking of nameless characters, I really thought about Elijah's mother this time around. She's a good mother - she works hard to keep Elijah's spirits up as he struggles with his disability. She's a good mother, but her son is not a good man.

Joseph feels like a real child to me. I recently watched Captain Marvel, and while I have a soft spot for comicverse Monica Rambeau and enjoyed her in WandaVision, her childhood self in Captain Marvel just doesn't seem like a real little girl to me. Joseph does seem like a real boy.

I really enjoy Unbreakable. I'm more attached to it than I am to The Sixth Sense - although it helps that I got to watch it the first time unspoiled. Even still, I like Unbreakable a lot. It is a really interesting take on the superhero genre.
