Something I've noticed in Pierce's works that is there but is often not discussed are the privileges of having magical power. Daine is happy to realize, at the end of Wild Magic, that she's no longer homeless but now has many homes. She never asks herself how much these offers of home are due to her personality, and how much due to her power. She never considers the implications of that. Briar is spared an unpleasant fate due to having magic in Sandry's Book. He never seems to give much thought for what happened to his gangmates, as young and exploited as himself. No one else seems to think about it, either. (At least in the original quartet - I've read some of the later books but it's been too long)
