I finally watched it this year. The relentless quippiness of the dialogue surprised me. My movie watching buddy pointed out that it feels kind of Buffylike in the way the bouncy wittiness is paired with serious themes.

I hadn't thought of the Buffy comparison but I can see that. Especially from Captain Renault, but the other characters, too.
