That's an easy one! Buffy/Spike. I had heard that this pairing existed (and had been spoiled for many things, including the attempted rape) before I started watching the show, so I was curious from the start. I started shipping them at that little moment in Halloween when Buffy regains her memory, says, "Hi, honey. I'm home." And punches Spike. The genderswapping and the violence, which about sums up my interest in the pairing. It wasn't until Fool For Love that I really became a shipper. I can't point to one moment in the episode that really spoke to me, so it would have to be the whole thing. For all the changes their relationship went through, I never lost interest.

Their relationship is so consistently fascinating. I think it helps that Spike wasn't introduced as a love interest, but a villain who mirrors Buffy right from the start.

Yeah, Riley and even Angel were both in the love-interest role from the start (and Angel didn't really grow as a character until he got his own show). Spike got to be his own character.
