It has been brought to my attention that Studio Ghibli films are streaming on Max for Americans, so I've watched Kiki's Delivery Service for the first time, and am working on Howl's Moving Castle. I read a few Diana Wynne Jones books as a kid, but never really go into her. I never read Howl's Moving Castle and am enjoying it so far.
I'm in volume 19 of Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm also reading a history book on ancient Egypt, The Mind of Egypt by Jan Assmann. It's a little pretentious for me, but still interesting.
I'm listening to the entire discography of Ed Sheeran. He's really hit and miss for me - some of his stuff is great, but some of his most popular songs don't do it for me.
The podcast I'm listening to, You're Wrong About, has addressed the Ebonics AKA African-American English controversy. Essentially a school district in Oakland, California, decided to teach standard English to Ebonics-speaking kids in a way that was more respectful of Ebonics - and this was taken by outsiders as that the district was teaching Ebonics to kids instead of standard English. And the school district was made to stop.

Date: 2023-12-11 07:21 am (UTC)You still haven't! ^_^ The movie takes the book as its starting point, covers a few plot points and then freewheels off into the blue. The movie is lovely, but the book is better. However, if you never got into her, then at least you get a tiny flavour. <3

Date: 2023-12-22 01:56 pm (UTC)My favourites are Howl's Moving Castle (and the sequel Castle in the Air), and Archer's Goon. And probably Dogsbody also. I can trace so many of my story-preferences back to those stories. :)
