Day #30: What you think made Buffy so great
Good characters, good writing, a good sense of humor. I so often find myself laughing while watching Buffy episodes. I also really like how they never did the same thing twice. They could even take two similar stories (like Buffy falling in love with a vampire with a soul) and make them very different.

Very much so. There's a lot of "there there" that no other show I've watched has ever quite matched (most tv shows have no "there there" or rather, the only thing "there" is what I see on surface. It is what it is, no layers.)
I'm thinking of Cordy suddenly - what was it she said? "I can have layers." or somesuch. I think that's it - the show has LAYERS, upon layers. Some of which can be frustrating, confusing, infuriating (*cough*racefail*cough*) which only increases the intensity of interest, for me at least. Most tv shows I can watch, enjoy them or not in the moment, and then move on without a second thought. They don't make me feel anything, they don't make me think.
They could even take two similar stories (like Buffy falling in love with a vampire with a soul) and make them very different.
The parallels in this show are amazing, and part of the layers: unintentional foreshadowing & intentional (or unintentional but cool anyway) call-backs. The church scene in WAY, the alley scene in DT. Buffy fighting her way out of her coffin in Nightmares and Bargaining. etc.
I've enjoyed this meme series btw!

Well-put. It's a show that rewards you for thinking about it.

YES. that's exactly it, in a nutshell, thank you!
