*Trigger Warning* for the first two links

An analysis of sexual assault on Buffy the Vampire Slayer which is also in large part a defense of how Buffy/Spike was written in S7. I find this meta particularly interesting since [livejournal.com profile] butterfly isn't a Buffy/Spike shipper, and while she's not anti-Spike, she doesn't count him among her favorite characters.

Speaking of people who aren't Spike fans, I hope I don't have to hand in my Spuffy credentials if I say that my favorite post about Seeing Red is this one, by [livejournal.com profile] coffeeandink, who is not only not a Buffy/Angel shipper, but, by her own acknowledgement, hates Spike.

Also, I found DeadLetters, a website of short BtVS and AtS fics that take the form of letters written by characters who have just died. I haven't had a chance to read all of them, but my favorite so far is you, me and shania twain, from Faith to Buffy.

I read some of Butterfly's and Coffeeandink's posts back in the day: good stuff. And I pretty much agree with much of what both say.

Yeah--I have a more positive interpretation of Spike overall than Coffeeandink does, but I find all her opinions v. interesting. And when I do disagree, it's usually about stuff that is somewhat ambiguous and open to interpretation anyone, and it's refreshing to see someone take the interpretation that is less positive about Spike, instead of defaulting to the more positive interpretation (which is the norm in many of the parts of fandom where I explore).

I also think that, in Seeing Red, Spike was IC. It's fair to know the flaws of our favourite characters. I'm curious about Dead Letters and the one you pick up. I'm translating the only Faith/Buffy I've ever written and maybe it can be interesting to read another point of you.

Yeah, I think Spike was in character. I go back and forth as to whether Buffy's reaction was in character, but I usually think it was. I'm not sure that it was the best choice dramatically, though.

The Faith letter is cool--you should read it. And I am interested in reading your fic. :)

Well, I don't know if it was the best choice, but, in many ways, the rape scene finally gives concistency to all the rape-metaphors in Buffy. In many ways I believe it was necessary to make things real (Even darkness)

I hope my fic is written correctly! ^^
