I just finished watching Something Wicked This Way Comes.

1. So how did Cassie have Dean's number? In Phantom Traveler, we learn that Dean only had his current number for six months. Given how estranged they were, I have a hard time believing he contacted Cassie with his new number. So how was she able to contact him?

2. I feel like Hell House had the beginning of some interesting ideas about the reliability of eye witnesses and the power of rumors, and the internet affects rumors. But it doesn't really go anywhere. Instead there is a lot of making fun of Ed and Harry. Which, well, given how your average SPN fan is probably more like them than then like Sam and Dean - it makes the mockery kinda obnoxious.

3. I've said this before, but I will say it again: adult Sam was nearly killed by the shtriga. How on earth was kid Dean supposed to hold it off?

That episode was pretty nuts looking back at it now, I wonder if the writers fully thought through how John was being portrayed there? I get the feeling that they were thinking more in terms of what it said about Sam and Dean’s relationship and why Dean is so protective of Sammy, plus why he was so determined to obey his fathers every command, but I wonder if they really did intend for John to come off quite as horribly neglectful as he did? I’ve seen a lot of people speculate that he was deliberately using his children as bait in that episode even, but I’m not sure if the writers wanted to take John that far when you look at his characterisation elsewhere in season 1, and JDM did play John as genuinely angry and scared over Sam being put at risk. A lot of questions are raised though about what John was thinking of when you look into the episode more, and I get the feeling that that part was unintentional on the writers part, but who knows

Yeah, I don't really know what the writers were thinking. Now, Sam and Dean used a child as bait, so I don't think the writers would have avoided John doing the same thing. Actually it might be a bit better if he was using his sons as bait - so at least he was right there and not neglecting them.
