I was reading my diary from a few years ago for, and I stumbled on something mildly amusing: I saw Iron Man with a group of friends when it first came out in 2008. It was the first Robert Downey Jr. movie I'd ever seen (and the last--for some reason I never got around to seeing Iron Man, even though I liked the first one).

What I had forgotten until rereading my diary was that after we saw the movie, I said to my friends, not one of whom was a Beatles fan, "Robert Downey Jr. is better at the soulful puppy dog eye look than Paul McCartney."

:) Though if you want to see RDJ really going for the soulful puppy dog look, you could try watching him play Chaplin in his early 20s (Downeys, not Chaplins). Considering that biopic is rather lengthy, I'd reccommend this vid based on it instead to prove my point:

Mind you, original Chaplin has both Paul and RDJ beat in the eyes department but that's what being the biggest male star of the silent era will do for you...

Thanks for the vid rec. And yes, those silent film stars needed very expressive faces.
