I love it when women cover John Lennon's songs. Here are three amazing covers of his work by female singers that I have stumbled upon in my explorations of the internet.

Priscilla Ahn's heartbreaking take on Julia.

Regina Spektor's lovely version of Real Love. Her voice strikes me as beautifully suited to this song. There is some empty space at the end of this video. I don't know why. You can just skip it.

Elizabth Gillies' gorgeous cover of Jealous guy. I appreciate that she doesn't try to genderswap the lyrics.

I defy you to not be awed by this music.

These are all three fantastic (and were unknown to me). As far as women covering Lennon songs are concerned, I've got a particular soft spot for Marianne Faithfull's cover of Working Class Hero:

(Which is why I used it in a story.)

That is a very powerful version.

I read that fic of yours, can't remember if I commented anywhere. Captures the grief of estrangement and death (and I have no doubt that a lifetime of 1969 would be better than death). I love the quiet tone of the story, Paul's uncertainty at the beginning the becomes more certain at the end. My favorite part is Paul imagining a conversation with John who goes from twenty-one to older than he ever got to be, or maybe it is Paul's moment of understanding with Yoko at the end.

Thank you. Grief and survival are themes that I find myself coming back to as themes in many a fandom, and this particular story was also triggered by having read Keith Richards' memoirs with that chapter about bonding with Paul late in life via those nightly visits and mirror guitar playing in what, checking the dates, turned out to have been the month when his second marriage was expiring.

At some point in the future I'd like to tackle the great white whale of Beatles RPF, which is the Paul and Yoko relationship through the decades. I've written a bit about it from her pov in "Opposites", and in moments like the one at the ending here, but that's also about a lot of other things.

That would be an interesting one to see. Opposites is one of my favorites of yours.
